Maryellen is a self-taught artist whose talents of observation have gifted her the ability to fulfill her creative visions. With her children raised and family business in good hands, Maryellen embarked on her lifelong dream of becoming an artist much later in life than what is typical. The airbrush has given her the key to that dream, allowing her to be part of Team Iwata at the SEMA show, being published in several magazines, instructing students from all over the world, and being invited to and hosting exciting airbrush events. Creating The Airbrush Institute is the pinnacle of her artistic path. She looks to the future and can’t wait to see how Airbrush 101 & 102 changes the landscape of her career…and yours.

I got started with the airbrush when I was in college in one of my classes. I had the aspiration to be a cutaway illustrator of automobiles like the artist David Kimble. I bought a cheap airbrush and wasn’t very successful teaching myself. It wasn’t until I attended an Airbrush Action Getaway for a pinstriping class that I found myself closely following what the airbrush classes were up to with their projects. I came back to the next Getaway to begin my legitimate airbrush education. I studied with many of the best airbrush artists in the world over the course of ten years. It has been my mission to bring the love of airbrushing into the college atmosphere by integrating it into my curriculum. My experience with the airbrush has been one of mentorship as I continually honor the profession by being an eternal student of the craft. I have learned that students learn best when there is not only a hands-on environment, but a visual aid and personal guidance. The combination of workbook and workshop is the perfect way to enter and master the world of airbrushing.
